High School Internships for the Next Generation

BuildUp Squad is a team-based internship where 3–5 students with shared interests work together for a real company on a project with a mentor. It’s a great fit if you enjoy collaboration and want to work with a global team. BuildUp Innovator is a solo internship where you work one-on-one with your mentor. Our team scouts companies specifically tailored to your interests. It’s ideal if you prefer working independently, want to explore a specific area more deeply, or need a high-impact internship for college. Both programs are deliverable-based, guided by mentors, and result in a certificate and portfolio-worthy output. Squad is offered thrice during summer break and once during winter break, while Innovator internships are offered year-round.

Squad runs in fixed summer and winter cohorts, so start dates are set — apply early to secure your spot. Innovator runs year-round with no fixed cohort dates; your start date, pace, and schedule are built around you.

For Squad, we wait for applications for each cohort to close before beginning the matching process. Students are then grouped into teams based on their interests, industry preferences, and skill levels, and each Squad is matched with a relevant company and project. Company matches are released approximately 2 weeks before the internship start date.

For Innovator, BuildUp begins with a detailed onboarding to understand your profile, interests, goals, and profile gaps. We then typically spend around 4 weeks sourcing a suitable company and structuring a personalized internship opportunity around you.

Squad internships run 7–8 weeks in structured cohorts. Innovator internships are flexible and typically last a minimum of 8 weeks, paced around your goals and schedule.

That’s exactly what Squad is for. We match you to a project in a broad area of interest — engineering, business, health, and more — so you can explore without committing to a niche. Innovator is best when you already have a clear goal or field; if you’re still exploring, Squad is usually the better fit.

Remote internships allow students to work on real-world projects from anywhere. They’re flexible, accessible, and designed to fit around school schedules. For high school students, especially those under 18, remote internships are also safer and more practical because most companies can’t host minors onsite, but can offer meaningful mentorship and project work remotely. Plus, you get to collaborate with mentors and teams across the world.

Our internships are open to high school students in Grades 8 through 12, from all academic backgrounds and boards (IB, CBSE, ICSE, IGCSE, American Board, etc.). No prior experience is needed — just curiosity, commitment, and an interest in exploring new skills and industries.

Yes, we have limited spots available. Once you fill out the application form, our team reviews your responses to understand your interests, motivation, and fit for the program. We don’t require prior experience. That said, if you’ve completed three or more BuildUp Industry Projects, your application will be reviewed more favourably.

Yes, but only if you’re selected. It’s a competitive application process, and fees are charged only after acceptance into the program.

Yes. All students who complete their internship and submit final deliverables receive two certificates: one from BuildUp and one from the partner company.

Recommendation letters are performance-based and written on your actual contribution. They’re awarded to exceptional performers who deliver outstanding work — not automatic for every participant.

Absolutely. Colleges highly value real-world experience, especially when it’s backed by mentorship and tangible results.
